How to Tie a Headscarf

With all thecute ways to wear a headscarf, it helps to know how to tie them, too! While generally, you can tie the headscarf into a simple knot and go, there are some other, more complex styles we’d like to give you some pointers on.

  1. Fold the scarf in half, forming a triangle.
  2. Roll the scarf the long way, from the long side to the point.
  3. Starting where your skin meets your hairline, wrap the scarf around the back of your head. The two ends should be in the front.
  4. Twist the ends around each other, then wrap them down to the back of your head.
  5. Finish by tying the ends in a knot and style the headband and hair as you see fit!

Rosie the Riveter

If you love the classic “Rosie the Riveter” headscarf tie look, we’ll show you just how it’s done!

  1. Fold the scarf in half, forming a triangle.
  2. With hair in a bun or ponytail, wrap the scarf around the back of your head. The two ends should be in the front.
  3. Tie the ends together tightly and in a double knot.
  4. At this point, there should be an excess of fabric sticking up behind your ponytail or bun. All you’ll need to do is tuck this extra fabric between the hair and the rest of the headscarf.
  5. If you love the pointy ends sticking up at the top, you can leave them. If not, simply tuck them off to the sides of the headscarf!
